Powers of the Monk lança novo single "Bread & Circuses" sendo o terceiro trabalho lançado nesse ano. Antes, havia sido lançado os singles "These Boots Were Made For Walkin'" e "Strip The Bone (Remix)".
O Powers of the Monk é uma banda sediada na região de Pontiac-Detroit-Ann Arbor, Michigan, EUA. O POM lançou uma versão demo de "Firefly" e um EP de três músicas chamado "Freight Train" em 2022. Em 2023, a banda iniciou um relacionamento com o produtor Dani Macchi, membro fundador da banda italiana Belladonna. Dani produziu uma versão regravada de "Firefly", lançada em novembro de 2023. Powers of the Monk releases new single "Bread & Circuses," their third release this year. Previously, they released the singles "These Boots Were Made For Walkin'" and "Strip The Bone (Remix)."
Powers of the Monk is a band based in the Pontiac-Detroit-Ann Arbor, Michigan, area. POM released a demo version of "Firefly" and a three-song EP called "Freight Train" in 2022. In 2023, the band began a relationship with producer Dani Macchi, a founding member of the Italian band Belladonna. Dani produced a re-recorded version of "Firefly," released in November 2023. In 2024, POM and Dani Macchi wrote the song "Switchin' Rails," which was released in two versions in February. The third single, "Puffy Head" (with bird legs), was released in May 2024. A cover of Charles Sheffield's 1961 song "It's Your Voodoo Working" and an instrumental version called "Voodoo" were released in the summer of 2024, as were two remastered older albums. The 8th release of 2024, "Icarus," was released in October, and "Strip the Bone" in December. 2025 will see the release of a remix of "Strip the Bone" and a cover of "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'." On their latest release, "Bread & Circuses," they were joined by guest drummer John O'Reilly Jr. POM is comprised of David S. Monk (vocals, guitar, keyboards), and CasSondra "Pontiac" Powers (vocals and violin).
The new album is a song about a schizophrenic patient with delusions of escaping from the asylum, visiting the circus, and watching the lions eat the clowns. "Bread & Circuses" immerses us in a unique, trad-folk sound, soft with acoustic guitar touches. The track brings a cinematic and dark touch to the folk scene, with introspective vocals and backing vocals, and arrangements that are spine-chilling in their transitions.
"Bread & Circuses" connects us with a more retro atmosphere, where we can float on a timeless journey. The track takes us to a rural town, where we can hear haunting tales and stories, one of which would be about this schizophrenic character. We close our eyes and imagine this escape, we can imagine him running down the road and passing in front of the car, like in a movie. That's the fascinating thing about this brilliant song: its power to spark the imagination in this beautifully constructed folk environment.
