Leah Callahan fez sucesso no cenário musical underground, começando como vocalista das bandas Turkish Delight US, Betwixt & The Glass Set. O novo trabalho nos leva em uma experiência sonora nostálgica dentro do indie rock e o new wave dos anos 80. O novo álbum "Curious Tourist" chega com 10 faixas e vamos analisar na sequência.
Para começar, tem a primeira faixa "Nowhere Girl" que tem uma introdução que já sentimos o indie rock, com indie wave, toque suave de guitarra e batidas que agitam a faixa. O sintetizador ao fundo é genial e o baixo é bem presente dando intensidade mais grave a música. A voz da cantora é suave, relaxante, ao estilo indie wave, algo que lembra a cantora Kate Pierson dos anos 80 e 90. O vocal masculino entra em um trecho e outro quando a faixa passa pelo refrão. É um grande hit para começar o álbum, uma canção rara de ouvir atualmente e que nos mata a saudade.
A terceira canção carrega o nome do álbum "Curious Tourist". Inicia bem suave nas batidas e um ambiente misterioso, com clima de suspense, sons minimalistas. A vocalista entra e traz um vocal doce e misterioso, indo suavemente e nos levando com esse som como se fosse o rock chegando ao velho oeste. Nossa mente voa para longe e vivemos o clima dessa música. Com riffs que vai fluindo em nosso corpo, batida que nos controla e baixo genial ditando o tom, é uma faixa cinemática e tem até saxofone no decorrer da canção. Uma canção incrível!
"Ordinary Face" é a quinta canção, com um rock and roll mais forte, riffs de guitarra que são intensos em seu início, a faixa em seu decorrer se diversifica, cria uma atmosfera pop rock anos 80 e depois um indie rock, uma canção que nos leva aos anos 80, com trechos badalados dançantes, a melodia gruda rapidamente em nossa mente.
"Social Climber" é a sexta canção. Com um toque rock clássico no começo, o sintetizador entra e traz o indie wave. A canção é uma das melhores do álbum, com um astral e atmosfera gostosa, cheia de energia, somos levados nessa vibe retro nos riffs de guitarra que são vibrantes.
A oitava faixa "All's Fair in War" tem uma introdução incrementada com o toque de teclado, como nos anos 80, baixo bem presente e riffs sombrios de guitarra. Uma harmonia melódica que é uma delícia ouvir, em um som bem construído que mantém nossa atenção e nos conectamos a essa temática.
Para finalizar, tem a décima faixa "You Don't Love Me (No No No)". Em um estilo totalmente diferente, vamos dizer com influências reggae nesse indie pop rock, com um som leve e cativante, que faz as noites de verão se tornarem especiais e quentes. Dançante, suave e gruda na cabeça, nos fazendo cantar juntos.
O álbum "Curious Tourist" chega com suas 10 faixas com muita história e ainda nos mata a saudade desse som dos anos anos 80 indie rock com indie wave. O que impressiona é que podemos deixar o álbum tocando sem pular nenhuma faixa demonstrando sua qualidade e o talento incrível de Leah Callahan.

Leah Callahan releases new album "Curious Tourist" being her first major work of this year and the fourth album released in her career. Previously, the last album released was "Cut-Ups" in 2022. 2022's "Cut-Ups" was in the top 200 on North American college radio NACC200, and Louder Than War's Iain Key proclaimed "Leah is a storyteller natural... gaining confidence with each album."
Leah Callahan was successful in the underground music scene, starting as a vocalist for the bands Turkish Delight US, Betwixt & The Glass Set. The new work takes us on a nostalgic sound experience within the indie rock and new wave of the 80s. The new album " Curious Tourist" arrives with 10 tracks and we will analyze the sequence.
To begin with, there is the first track "Nowhere Girl" which has an introduction that already feels indie rock, with indie wave, soft guitar playing and beats that shake up the track. The synthesizer in the background is brilliant and the bass is very present, giving the song a more serious intensity. The singer's voice is soft, relaxing, in an indie wave style, something that reminds me of singer Kate Pierson from the 80s and 90s. The male vocal comes in one section and another when the track goes through the chorus. It's a big hit to start the album, a song that's rare to hear these days and makes us miss it.
The third song carries the album name "Curious Tourist". It starts very softly with the beats and a mysterious atmosphere, with a suspenseful atmosphere, minimalist sounds. The vocalist enters and brings a sweet and mysterious vocal, going smoothly and taking us with this sound as if it were rock arriving in the old west. Our mind flies away and we experience the atmosphere of this song. With riffs that flow through our body, a beat that controls us and a brilliant bass dictating the tone, it's a cinematic track and there's even a saxophone throughout the incredible track.
"Ordinary Face" is the fifth song, with a stronger rock and roll, guitar riffs that are intense at the beginning, the track diversifies throughout, creating an 80s pop rock atmosphere and then an indie rock, a song which takes us to the 80s, with funky dance sections, the melody quickly sticks in our mind.
"Social Climber" is the sixth song. With a classic rock touch at the beginning, the synthesizer comes in and brings in indie wave. The song is one of the best on the album, with a pleasant vibe and atmosphere, full of energy, we are taken with this retro vibe in the vibrant guitar riffs.
The eighth track "All's Fair in War" has an introduction enhanced with keyboard playing, like in the 80s, very present bass and dark guitar riffs. A melodic harmony that is a delight to hear, in a well-constructed sound that keeps our attention and connects us to this theme.
Finally, there is the tenth track "You Don't Love Me (No No No)". In a totally different style, let's say with reggae influences in this indie pop rock, with a light and captivating sound, which makes summer nights special and warm. Dancing, smooth and stuck in your head, making you sing together.
The album "Curious Tourist" arrives with its 10 tracks with a lot of history and we still miss that sound of the 80s indie rock with indie wave. What's impressive is that we can leave the album playing without skipping any track, demonstrating its quality and Leah Callahan's incredible talent.
